Conversing With the Holy by Ingrid Goff-Maidoff"The Lord may be addressed My life has been enriched by this wisdom in ways that continue to unfold. The poems in my book, Conversing with the Holy, represent prayerful conversations I sometimes have throughout the day. They are dreamy, formal, casual, sensual... Saint Teresa of Avila said that "mental prayer is nothing else...but being on terms of friendship with God, frequently conversing in secret with him." This is also lovely wisdom, and permission to address the Holy in our own language and style.I will never be a saint; I don't long to be a saint. Where an aspiring saint might seem to strive for perfection- to strive, to reach, and to quite often fall short, the mystic arrives at a passionate peace through falling ~ falling into the arms of the Holy. That's what I want: to fall like a lover, to dance, to converse, however imperfectly but with joy. I long to live my life in intimate relationship with the Eternal Energy and the Divine Mystery of which we are all a part. The following beautiful words are just a few I have found for naming the Divine. I offer them to you on the off chance you might enjoy writing your own prayers, and having your own conversations with the Holy. If you enjoy this list, you might really love my book, Naming the Divine- a hand-made flipbook of beautiful language.
