The track above is the title song to my album, Savor the Days.  It is a song I wrote after my Uncle Roy died, way too young.  Last month, one of my husband’s best friends passed away after a brief and furious battle with cancer. Jonah and he had been like brothers since high school.  We flew out to San Francisco in hopes to tell him how much we loved him and to say good-bye.  We arrived hours too late.  Jonah is thankful that he had gone in April to visit and to cook for the family.  This time we cooked a big meal for an informal memorial gathering, and then we spent the rest of the week with the mourning family- dazed, saddened, and appreciative of our friend’s full and loving life.

We ventured out to Muir Woods, and to Golden Gate Park- savoring the Redwoods and the Roses- savoring the days.  In the face of Life’s often surprising brevity, this song came to mind again.  Friend, I hope you enjoy your moments this summer.  I hope you savor the days.

The healing power of the ocean, song “The Infinite”

The Infinite

I wrote this song many years ago shortly after having a miscarriage.  The day of the loss, Jonah and I drove out to Lucy Vincent and sat on a rock, watching and listening to the waves come in.  While the ocean couldn’t explain for us why, or what for, we did find its presence comforting.

The Infinite

The Infinite is my Beloved,
this ocean is my reminder.
And I’ve walked this shore restless,
near a thousand times,
my head full of measurements, my soul divided.

The green waves that rush in and back again,
wind in the dune grass, million grains of sand,
crickets at dusk, stars in the night sky,
all call me back to my love.

They sing, “You are not the sum of your suffering,
you are not all that you have done.
you are not even the thoughts that you think.
You and we are one.”

When I bring my sadness to the sea,
and I look to the horizon.
From where I stand to eternity,
everything’s so beautiful.

I Symphony You… YouTube Valentine

YouTube Preview Image

I thought I’d post this love song here.   When I first wrote “I Symphony You”, one woman brought her husband to my little shop so I would sing it to him.  Another sent it to her estranged boy-friend, and they became engaged.  After that they asked me to come sing it at their wedding.  I’m happy about that.  This is one of the songs on my album, Savor The Days.

Life has Loveliness to sell – song and video

Life has Loveliness to Sell song and slide show ~   This is a pretty Sarah Teasdale poem which I sang on my album Savor the Days.  I used pictures from my blog, mostly of the Vineyard, for the slide show.
