This week I printed, assembled and sewed 7 copies of my most elaborate hand-made book: Postcards from the Landscape of Joy.
Every time I re-visit this book, it gives me so much pleasure. The pages are so rich with color, beauty and reflection.
Each postcard celebrates the peaceful refuge within, the riches of the spirit, and the beauty of the world.
It takes hours to print these books, glue the covers, and hand-bind them. My favorite tool is an old ice-pick which I use to hammer the holes through which I sew the gold thread.
I created the collaged illustrations in this book with pictures of my life, my children, and paintings by my great grandfather, Arthur Spear.
Each page invites the reader into the realm of her own heart, and offers explorations of its metaphorical gardens, lakes, marketplaces, rivers and fields… It’s a feast for the heart and the divine imagination.
“There is a place in you in which the whole universe dwells; a place of love and truth, beauty and peace. To remember this place feels like coming home…
“This is the wealth of the spiritual life: once a being shifts her consciousness from self-centered to heart-centered, the whole world feels lighter, more beautiful, more in love. She has fewer wants, fewer desires. The product pushers have lost her and the consumer index sighs.” ~Ingrid Goff-Maidoff, Postcards From The Landcapse Of Joy
